- ABOUT ME
Cristina Ortega
Life can throw a lot our way, which can create an enormous  amount of stress. At times, the stress and anxiety of daily life can get so overwhelming that we feel like there is nothing we can do about it. My goal as your counselor is to make sure that you have a space to express and understand your life experience, as well as learn effective skills to manage your symptoms. I value a collaborative therapeutic relationship based on trust, warmth, and comfortability, where the client is an active participant in their counseling. I aim to provide a space where my clients are comfortable to both manage their symptoms and explore why they may be having them. Seeking therapeutic services can be a nerve-racking experience, so taking the first step in scheduling an appointment shows your strength and dedication to change. I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology from Adelphi University, and a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from SUNY New Paltz. I have experience working with individuals ranging from pre-teens to adults who deal with anxiety, depression, life stressors, coping with transitional periods, and addressing relational issues.

What do you do for fun?
I love to go for walks when the weather is nice to keep my body and mind active. I also like playing video games and chatting with friends and family as a way to unwind from the day.
What makes you weird?
I love celebrity drama, pop culture, and entertainment news. I am also a huge Star Wars fan (which is cool and fun and not weird at all!)
What do people (e.g. clients, peers, friends, family) say about you?
They would say I am a smart, compassionate, and trustworthy person, who always likes to make people laugh.
