- ABOUT ME
Dr. Matt Maher
I feel strongly that therapy is meant to be a collaborative setting to process the daily struggles that affect our quality of life. My training is comprehensive and includes a Doctorate in Psychology where I focused on Trauma and Crisis Intervention, an Advanced Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, and my foundational education being a Masters in Mental Health Counseling. Over time I have developed a highly adaptive and individualized approach to treatment drawing on many schools of psychology. I believe in the importance of a Humanistic Behavioral Approach to work that is sensitive to each persons own trauma history. To me this means utilizing strategies from ABA, Humanistic/Person Centered, Solution Focused Brief Strategy, Cognitive Behavioral, and Dialectical Behavioral psychology to meet a client where they are at. Together, and with a sensitivity to the history that each patient holds we work together to move forward.

I have experience and expertise in several areas. As a behaviorist I have worked within schools and homes to help improve the behavior of young children and teenagers. I view behavior change as a collaborative process that focuses on clear expectations, boundaries, and focus heavy on parent coaching. There is nothing more frustrating than feeling as if you cannot change your child's behavior. As a therapist, I have worked with a wide range of adults also. I have extensive experience in crisis counseling having worked for many years in a Psychiatric Emergency Department and Community Mobile Crisis Response Team. I have worked with First Responders and Victims of Trauma alongside Critical Incident Response Teams. As such I work with adults who have experienced trauma and may suffer from post-traumatic stress or other symptoms as a result. I work with both civilians and first responders (Fire, Police, EMS, Military).
What do you do for fun?
I binge watch Netflix. Otherwise it's family trips and reading books.
What makes you weird?
I think the quirkiest or weirdest thing about me is that I tend to butcher metaphors and mix them in sessions when working with patients. Like frequently.
What do people (e.g. clients, peers, friends, family) say about you?
That I am down to earth and that results in being more approachable.
